So thrilled to be joining the cast of Back Home Again, a brand new original musical featuring the songs of John Denver! I'll be singing, dancing, acting, fiddling, violaing, and guitaring!
We will be rehearsing in NYC and then performing at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek CA Jan 11-21, 2017. Check out the website below!
"The iconic songs of John Denver come to life like never before in Back Home Again, an original new musical about a young soldier's journey home to his family and first love. When the war-torn veteran finds himself face to face with his past, he must reconcile the life he left behind before his bright future can begin. Winner of the John Denver Spirit Award, Back Home Again features a collection of the cherished singer-songwriter's beloved hits and lesser-known treasures, including “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Sunshine On My Shoulders,” and “Leaving On A Jet Plane.” Experience this poignant new story of love and forgiveness told through the brilliant songs that have inspired generations of Americans for over four decades."
We opened our show today, to an amazing audience rave responses. This community has been so supportive and wonderful, and I feel very blessed to be here doing this great show with such great people!
Once again I am picking up the instruments to play the amazing music of "The Man in Black"! This time I will be playing the track of Mark, which includes upright bass, fiddle, and guitar. All of this is up at Potsdam Music Theatre on the campus of SUNY Potsdam. We will be rehearsing for about three weeks and then 10 shows back to back! Should be a whirlwind experience.
So excited to be working down in beautiful Miami Florida as a vocal director for Royal Caribbean International. My current project is preparing the cast of the Serenade of the Seas to perform their two shows, "Stage to Screen" and "Vibe*ology". The massive new rehearsal studios are located on the campus of Florida International University just a short stop away from the beach! So I think we all know where I will be for the next month...
What a wonderful way to end this run and my stay here in Ashland, Oregon! Gonna miss making music and being country stars every night with these cool cats. Thank you Johnny for teaching me about never giving up on what you love and those you love.
After a whirlwind rehearsal process, our wonderful show is up and running! We've been playing to sold out houses, and have received some rave reviews. As more reviews come in, I will be updating this post with links.
Ashland Sneak Preview - "Kudos to Brian Russell Carey for the magic he works, both as musical director and as one of the production's performers. Brian plays fiddle, piano, and guitar with ease and verve. He adds a good singing voice to many company numbers, and shows a talent for gallows humor in his solo number, "Delia's Gone".
Mail Tribune - "Part of [Cash's] charm was the spare, stripped-down sound...aided by Carey’s ability to slip back and forth between guitar, piano and fiddle."
Grants Pass Daily Courier - "On the comic side is...Brian Russell Carey's, "Delia's Gone".
Excited to be able to share with you a little of what I have been working on with this amazing show. Enjoy!
My next project is Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash at the Oregon Cabaret Theatre in Ashland, Oregon! I am going to be playing David, and I will also be the Music Director. Rehearsals start Jan 19th in Ashland, and then the show runs from Feb 11-April 17th.
I was able to be a part of MOD Theatre Company's flagship production, A Christmas Carol, performing off-Broadway at the Clurman Theatre at Theatre Row. This production was a new take on an old classic with 8 performers playing all 57 characters. I also wrote incidental music for the production and performed it every night on viola and cello.
NY Theatre Guide - "Brian Russell Carey supplies the music with his gifted fiddling."
I had the awesome to opportunity perform as "Otto" in the beautiful show Club Gelbe Stern. This show ran off-Broadway at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, directed by Sharone Halevy and starring the wonderful Alexis Fishman as Erika.
British Theatre - "Fishman has first rate musical assistance from Brian Russell Carey on piano (he plays Otto too)"
